N.Tirans award and our projects awards at “Best Buildings in Latvia 2023” contest

At ceremony “Best Buildings in Latvia 2023” our leading engineer and director Normunds Tirāns was awarded as year’s best structural engineer! Many our objects received awards:

1st place in the nomination New residential construction – Mežciema mājas, Sergeja Eizenšteina iela 47A, Rīga;
1st place in the nomination Reconstruction – New Riga Theatre, Lāčplēša iela 25, Rīga;
1st place in the nomination BIM object – Office building New Hansa, Mihaila Tāla iela 1, Rīga;
2nd place in the nomination New public building – Office building New Hansa, Mihaila Tāla iela 1, Rīga;
1st place in the nomination New public building – Business center Gustavs, Gustava Zemgala gatve 73, Rīga.

Tashkent High-rise survey

In the spring of 2022 IG Kurbads carried out a 23-story building prebuy survey in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The building's reinforced concrete frame was inspects on site, construction documentation and process was evaluated, independent calculations of primary load bearing structures were carried out, recommendations to the client were provided.

In the April of 2021 in journal Būvinženieris (Civil engineer) issue Nr.79 was published IG Kurbads engineers N.Tirans and J.Velicko articles “High-rise precast buildings” about tendencies and features in high precast concrete buildings construction.

Articles about progressive collapse and integrity requirements

In the end of 2019 in journal Būvinženieris (Civil engineer) issues Nr.70 and Nr.71 was published IG Kurbads engineers N.Tirans and J.Velicko articles “Building codes requirements for prevention of progressive collapse” and “Practical provision of structural integrity”

Article about our project Hanzas Perons

Journal Būvinženieris (Civil engineer) has published an article about culture and art venues building Hanzas Perons reconstruction. The article also gives comments by IG Kurbads chief Normunds Tirans on the technical challenges in this project.

Article about Hanzas Perons project has also been published by the popular design portal DeZeen.

Article about progressive collapse problem

IG Kurbads engineers J.Velicko and N.Tirans article "Konstrukciju progresējošs sabrukums – drošas būvniecības drauds" (Structures progressive collapse - threat of safe construction) in journal Būvinženieris (Civil engineer) 2019 August issue (Nr.69).

Sumitomo Forestry Tsukuba Research Institute visit

In February 2019 team of IG Kurbads engineers along with the Latvian wood construction cluster members has visited Sumitomo Forestry company Tsukuba Research Institute in Japan. During visit Japanese colleagues has presented Sumitomo Forestry company ambitious plan to build a 350m high timber skyscraper W350, as well as research fields of Sumitomo Forestry Tsukuba research institute, an experimental facilities and a newly built timber office building with several specific technical solutions. During the visit there was an opportunity to discuss specific technical issues with Japanese colleagues in a creative and friendly atmosphere

Initial structural concept of office buildings complex developed

Together with Pillar architects and developers team initial structural concept of office buildings complex was created. Various structural options and proposals were examined, initial structural calculations were carried out and provisional amounts of structures to be built were estimated.

Tokyo Skytree overview

IG Kurbads chief Normunds Tirans visited Tokyo Skytree in December 2017 together with structural designer of this structure Atsuo Konishi. The 634m high tower is a highest structure in Japan and 2nd highest structure in the world. During this visit also was shown specific structures usually not seen for spectators – foundation dampers and details, oscillations dampers and other details that Mr. Atsuo Konishi is still monitoring.

N.Tirans acknowledgement for good practice

During "Best building of the year" ceremony 30.03.2017 IG Kurbads chief Normunds Tirans was awarded with journal Būvinženieris (Civil engineer) acknowledgement for good practice according international standards in structural design and its implementation in Latvia.

Design engineer of the year award for J.Velicko

IG Kurbads engineer Jans Velicko got 1st place as design engineer of the year in competition "Civil Engineer of the Year".

Article about Kurbads office in A+U magazine

Popular Japan-based architectural journal A+U (Architecture & Urbanism) in issue about Latvia published article about our office - Kurbads house (arch. Reinis Liepiņš, Sudraba Arhitektūra). In this issue also are published several articles about objects we have worked on: Skārņu street 11 building (arch. Jaunromāns un Ābele), Dome Hotel building (arch. Sudraba Arhitektūra), New Riga Theatre building (arch. Zaigas Gailes Birojs).
